Out With Three - The Book

Out With Three hit the streets on Valentine's Day, 2008. It is a sweet present for the Buff family. Since Davina Buff Jones' death in 1999, her family has worked diligently to clear her name. The 290 pages pull together information even the family had never seen until Thanksgiving of 2007 when they sat down to read the final proof of the book. It contains interviews of people who were told not to talk at the time or those who were afraid to speak out until now. Their words are supported by the findings of the benefit officers on local, state, and federal levels.

The book relies heavily on the investigative work done by local police on Bald Head Island and from the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office as well as the NC State Bureau of Investigation. The material heavily referenced in the pages are primary resources, the documents themselves, not someone's recollections or faded memories.

To understand the murder the reader must be aware of the circumstances of working as a police officer on Bald Head at the time, the turmoil between administrative officers in power there, the problems an honest cop posed as well as the history of the area and outside persons who had reasons to want her silenced. It is all in the pages of the book.

Many people will find it hard to appreciate the reactions of the locals on the island who wanted the matter to simply disappear rather than be investigated apart from the initial cover-up. Others wanted to protect their more sinister businesses. But the facts are hard to refute.

Referenced in an unusual pattern, the reader will discover that the writer made it very easy for the facts to be noted, making it clear where the writer's opinion is to be found. The book allows the players to make their own statements without bias. The scenario in the last few pages is one of the only places where the author takes the reader into supposition, based on the best evidence. Then the reader can decide.
